No More Darkness

Aug 14, 2021

It has been a huge desire since the start of Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation for the audacious goal of the project “No More Darkness.” We have spent a lot of time sharing this vision and idea as one of the things we wanted to achieve through Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation. There were people in the United States very excited about the vision and idea and got behind “No More Darkness” with significant financial donations.

To make this goal a reality, one of our team members from the United States took a seven-week trip to Nigeria to assist in kicking off the project. After several meetings with contractors, feasibility studies and unforeseen challenges beyond our control, we realized that although our best efforts were put forward, they were futile. We never gave up because the goal of the “No More Darkness” project had significance both literally and spiritually. It was so much bigger than the obvious. Wherever there is light, darkness does not have a stronghold. Nigeria’s power system is very unstable and therefore leaves the people in the dark much of the time. With a stable solar power light system in place, when darkness overtakes the skies, light will prevail. Light is a resemblance of hope and safety. Jesus is the light. He is our guide. Solar power lights lighting the streets of Igosun, Kwara State Nigeria brings hope and excitement. An opportunity to move about without concern of what lurks in the darkness.

In June 2021, during our 5 Year Anniversary Thanksgiving at First Baptist Church Igosun, we made a financial donation to the church to pilot the solar light project as a proof of concept before expanding within the community. We are elated to finally see the “No More Darkness” project kick off. A week ago, 18 solar lights were installed in and around the church property. As stated above, light drives out darkness. Solar lights may not seem like a big deal to some. However, in this part of the world, power is a big struggle. Our friends in Igosun will sometimes go days without power. The installation of these solar lights represents a new beginning for Igosun, Kwara State, Nigeria. Praise God for all the good He is allowing to happen through Ebunlomo Olagunju Foundation. To God be the glory!

A very special thank you to Mr. Alao Enock Adeshola of Alphasho Global Technology Services, the Implementation Committee, Board of Trustees, and our generous donors who continue to make this possible. We are forever grateful for your support.

UPDATE – July 5, 2022 – After our pilot launch of “No More Darkness,” others in the village with the financial means to do so, have begun to follow our lead. More solar lights are being installed in different areas of the town. We are slowly working to get our friends in Igosun out of the dark. God is so very good!! We are excited to see where the next lights will be installed.
