The late Mrs. Ruth Ebunlomo Olagunju, the honoree for the foundation, had been a widow since October 1st 1990. Most people her age would not have lived for another 30 years after their spouse was gone. To the glory of God and amazing support system, she enjoyed a wonderful life until she went to be with Jesus on December 28th, 2020.

Mrs. Olagunju benefited from the generous care and support she received from people in the community. Although, Mrs. Olagunju was cared for by her children, she was so loved by many in the community. She was well cared for and supported by many in the village. We witnessed the benefit of a community coming together to take care of a widow.

The goal of this project is to afford other widows and widowers in the village the opportunity to experience support in a tangible and practical way. It’s our way of paying it forward and living out our philosophy that every blessing we receive is to be shared.

Here are some key components of this project:

  • We have divided the widows and widowers into four categories so we can target our assistance in a way that provides maximum benefit.
  • As part of this initiative, we are going to provide financial assistance to specifically cover housing and utilities for some.
  • We are putting in place business development programs to teach the younger widows “how to fish” instead of fishing for them. Through this program, we will work with some widows to develop a small business that will in turn be a source of income for them.
  • We are also going to be providing groceries for those who are most likely to benefit from our food pantry program.
  • We are working with individuals in the community to develop a volunteer program to recruit people to serve by doing practical projects for the widows we are serving.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”- James 1:27
